The merchant Bohnsack has made up his mind to prevent his daughter Flaminia from marrying shy young Ernst. Chicco, Lisetta and the inventor Astradamus, however, have in turn made up their minds to help the two lovers. Thus when three cheerful couples undertake to bamboozle Bohnsack, the match is practically decided against the stubborn old miser. Poor Bohnsack is moonstruck and is therefore easily taken in by Astradamus who promises to enable him to fly to the moon with a magic mixture. On awakening from a deep slumber, he finds himself on the ‘moon’, where the consequences of love sabotaged by a father are demonstrated to him.
